Charisma and impeccable soft skills may help you win that respected position. However, it is not enough to just train people and let them do their jobs. Your character and qualities as a leader will determine if people will love and respect you. There is a thin line between making people want to go that extra mile for you and making them want to throw darts at your picture. And if you want to be part of the former transformational leadership clique, keep reading!
Here are 5 ways in which you can use transformational leadership to win people over and get them to respect you:
1. Dive in with your teammates:
If you are one to delegate tasks and wait till the next meeting to see if they are done, you will hardly make an impact. Qualities of a good leader would include a will to dive right in with your teammates and be a part of the risk/task that you want to undertake and achieve. We all know the cliche tales of leaders who demand long hours of their teammate but leave the workplace at 5. We all know how repulsive that can be (no, it’s not just folklore).
2. Transformational Leadership is Empathetic:
It is important to address issues not through the vantage point of an enclosed glass cabin and your regal leather swivel chair. An authentic leader will address issues and requests of their teammates in an altruistic fashion and only then make a decision. That is not to say that one cannot make tough decisions that might disappoint others. But it is important that your view is through the looking glass of a subordinate teammate who doesn’t necessarily have the privileges you do.
3. Aim High:
Charismatic leaders such as Elon Musk are loved and respected because they have the audacity to go after what the entire humankind dreams of. This sets them apart and by a large margin, puts them on a pedestal that is underlined by trust and respect. As a leader, it is important to go after what the entire team wants to but probably considers unattainable. Undertake goals that other people want to be a part of. Undertake it with style and confidence and watch the contagion influence your teammates with equal confidence and determination.

4. Be The Calm In The Face of Conflict:
Transformational Leadership is always the source of calm and composure in the face of conflict. It is extremely important to maintain your body language and regulate your volume in the face of conflict. While it is biologically easier to raise your voice and cross your arms, remember that you will lose credibility to comfort by the minute. Maintain slow movement and a low, relaxed volume when addressing matters that cause unrest instead of exploding all over the place.
5. Take The Verbal Focus Off You:
It is an important lesson in authentic leadership to take the verbal focus of you (I, me, myself) when undertaking a task that requires teamwork. It is important to address your team in a language that is inclusive and communal. In short, speak in “we” for most of the part to help people realize that following you helps them achieve their goals. This is probably the most important principle to take away from today’s blog post.
Charismatic Leadership is an imbibed quality that is a combination of a lot of progressive and inclusive habits. In the end, at the core of all of our beings, personal or professional, we seek a sense of belonging. Transformational leadership is all about creating that sense of harmony and community with confidence and calm.
