Grooming oneself has an impact on the mind. We cannot overlook the fact that different ways in which we present ourselves have different impacts on our minds. This is true for both men and women. Like we discussed in the last blog post, this is a result of evolution. I personally do not think that grooming oneself is the same as conforming to the conventional beauty standards of the society. It only means taking care of your body in a way that you get to live as the best version of yourself. Whatever practices make you feel good about yourself, that becomes your grooming technique. However, there are certain grooming tips for women that I think can be applied commonly to all of us. Particularly in a professional environment.
No, I’m not going to list products that I think are good. That is because everybody’s skin is different and what works for me will not necessarily work for you. Find out what your skin type is. To do this, wipe your skin with a clean dry tissue and see where the oil gathers. If you find oil on all corners of your face, you have oily skin. Oil only your forehead, nose and chin oily means you have combination skin. If the tissue has no oil, you have dry skin and lastly, if there is just a moderate amount of oil on your tissue, you have normal skin.
Once you’ve determined your skin type, research on what kind of products will work on you. Also prioritize your skincare goals. Do you want to reduce acne? Achieve an even skin-tone? Or do you want to reduce the redness around your mouth and nose? Whatever it is, prioritise two goals first and get yourself products to achieve these goals. If you don’t wish to use an elaborate, time consuming skincare regimen, just opt for the traditional CTM method instead. Whatever it is that you decide on, remember to wash your face and moisturise it at night. No matter how tired you are.
This tip strictly depends on your preference. However, it is nice to treat your skin (and hair, and nails) every now and then to achieve that extra, healthy glow. Try to hit the salon at least once a month and get the time-consuming grooming part like waxing (or not) out of the way.
Whether you prefer doing a full-face makeup, just concealer and mascara or no makeup at all, make sure your products are hygienic and not past their expiry date (ew.) Also, take your makeup off before bed. Use a dab of coconut oil to melt your makeup and then wash it off with your face cleanser. Also make sure you clean your makeup brushes at least once in two weeks.
Well maintained hair gives you an extra appeal. There is a reason why you feel good on your accidental good hair days. Make sure you trim off all your split ends and get a haircut that suits the shape of your face. Brush your hair regularly. Also, it is super important to keep a clean scalp because otherwise, it will cause acne on your forehead and back. Use the right products for your hair-type and don’t use too much heat.
Yes, Al Pacino is brilliant in it. However, my point is to make the best use of your fragrances. Invest in some quality fragrances that positively impact your mood and suit your persona. Also, invest in good quality deodorants, especially during the summers.
You can go for neatly trimmed nails with a transparent coat or nude colours that enhance your skin-tone. Whatever you do, keep your nails trimmed neatly in order to avoid accidents.
Your clothes should be representative of your personality as well as the environment you are in. You can check out my blog page on how to dress according to your body type here. Opt for clothes that highlight your features instead of trying to hide your “flaws”.
To improve your strength, endurance and resilience, get moving frequently. Try to workout for at least five days a week. Whether you like hitting the gym, waking up early in the morning for a refreshing yoga session or a run in the park. Moving and getting physical exercise helps attain the kind of glow that makeup will never manage.
It is so much more important than it has been emphasized upon. Sufficient water will make your skin immaculate. You know what? Go get yourself a glass of water. I’ll wait. Based on your average physical activity in the day, added with your weight and BMI, determine how much water you need in a day. AND. DRINK. IT. Not Fruit juices. Not Sodas. Just the plain, good, room temperature water.
When it comes to shoes, I always prefer quality over quantity. Your shoes can make or mar your look so be sure you invest in good, classy pairs that you can style with multiple outfits.
All these points that I have covered today are grooming tips for women you can customise to your preference down to the last t. However, make sure you develop a routine and see for yourself how it feels to have that kind of discipline in your life!
