1. Type of Event
The kind of event is the most important parameter for this decision.
If it is a festival, say Diwali or a wedding, choose ethnic wear with bright colors as these make you feel more energized and in sync with the festive mood. For a brunch with friends or colleagues, casual is the best option. A client meeting always requires you to at your best in formal attire. So first understand what the event is before picking your outfit for the day. If you have 2 events in a day you can always mix and match in a way that letting go or adding one part of the outfit will make you ready for the next event.
For example, for men, a white shirt with a blue formal pant is an appropriate dress for office, say you are going for dinner with friends after that, you can choose to wear a jeans or casual chinos and change from your formal shoes to moccasins and Tada! You are ready!
2. Time of the Event
People who ace their dressing game know how to choose their dress basis the time of the event. If you wear a floral pattern dress for a night gala event, you will feel out of place. Reason being, usually dark colors are worn for evening events and light solid colors, prints, floral patterns are for the day events. 3. Season
Most people who go out shopping because they feel it’s been a while since they shopped or because there is an event for which they want to buy something new or because there is a new trend, may not actually realize that a lot of thought goes into what most brands are keeping on display. Season being one of them.
It is suggested to choose colors as per the season too. Try to wear warm colors during winter and fall and cool colors during summer and spring. In general, warm colors are red, orange, yellow and the like while cool colors are colors belonging to the family of green, blue, purple, etc.
4. Body Type
This is of utmost important so that you are confident in carrying what you wear. How does the dress fit you? If you are in a meeting and the dress that you are wearing doesn’t compliment your body type, then you will be tugging at it which makes you feel less confident.
Be in control of how you feel by choosing what you are wearing. For women, if you are petite or have an apple or pear-shaped body, you should choose clothes that bring or move attention away from the right part of you body that flaunts your curve in the most natural way. Same applies to men too while choosing colors, fit and style.
Also, darker colors make you look slimmer while lighter colors accentuate your body, so choose wisely, what to flaunt and what to hide. Love your body, and make it feel nice by choosing the right kind of accessories that make a difference.
5. Comfort
As long as you are comfortable, you can carry whatever you wear. Say you choose black for a gala dinner. For women, black could be a short dress or a long one, but what are you comfortable in? I for example, love to wear short dresses but don’t feel very comfortable as mine is a pear-shaped body with thighs that make me conscious. I choose long dresses with a slit that make me look tall and do not highlight my thighs either. So, I get the best of both worlds.
Heels are nice but what kind of heels are you comfortable in? Can you wear stilettos for 4 hours or would you rather choose wedges of the same color but more comfort?
